Hi! I'm Abby (22), owner, baker (& everything in-between) of abs bakes!

A few years ago, I began sharing my baking journey via social media & a little recipe blog! After a few months of this, in August 2020 I opened abs bakes, and started my career during a national lockdown. The blog & recipe sharing quickly took a back seat when I began to take orders and saw a quick growth in my business. This meant that after just a few months this was my full-time job. 

Since then, my business has continued to grow, thanks to my brilliant customers and the support of everyone around me. I am extremely grateful to each and every person who has supported my small business and made it a possibility for me to do what I love. As a girl who grew up never knowing what she wanted to do or where the world would take her, it feels so great to now know what I want to do forever.

I've always been a creative person but I've struggled to really find something that I could apply that to. I'm passionate about design and have a mind full of new ideas, which is why the art of cake decorating is perfect for me. It's a fabulous industry that is ever-changing & evolving. There are no rules, there is no right or wrong and in 10, 20, 30 years who knows what kinds of cake trends will be out there! I love the experimental aspect of what I do, the 'not knowing' exactly how something might turn out and being able to just run with your ideas. Don't get me wrong, this doesn't always work, but that's all part of the learning process.

The best thing about my job is the impact I can make with 'just a cake'. The reactions to my work, the look on a customers face and the kind words I receive do not go unnoticed & truly are the things that keep me motivated. It's such a pleasure to be able to create your personalised cake designs, whether it be a random gift or a real milestone in a loved one's life (even weddings!!!) Knowing I put smiles on people's faces is just the best feeling.

Another thing I love about what I do is the people. I was surprised to see how incredibly supportive and helpful other bakers & small business owners are. The idea of being "in competition" now seems like a crazy thought. We all help each other out where we can, giving advice or via recommendations, not to mention the real sense of support you feel from those in the same boat. I've made some great friends and know I'll continue to do so.

Anyway, that's me! I look forward to the many more cakes, bakes & experiences to come in my career. This is just the beginning...
